Biography of John Paul II
Born in Poland on May 18, 1920 with the name of Karol Jozef Wojtyla in a Catholic family. After facing constant deaths of his immediate family, he graduates from the Jagiellonian University. Later, he begins his pastoral life where he stands out as auxiliary bishop and archbishop of Krakow before being proclaimed pope.
He is elected on October 16, 1978 as pope becoming the youngest of that century and the first non-Italian since the 16th century (with Hadrian VI). During his papacy, the third longest in history with 27 yearssuffered from a couple of attempts on his life before dying of septicemia on April 2, 2005.
