USA- A survey conducted by Faith Driven Consumer (FDC), an organization that monitors the behavior of the religious public, revealed that the majority of people whose faith influences their decisions are less likely to see the new version of “The Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, due to the inclusion of a gay character in a children’s film.
The presence of a homosexual scene between the villain Gastón and his assistant LeFou was a decision of director Bill Condon. It is not part of the story on which the film or the animated version released in 1993 is based.
In a recent interview, Condon said “it was a good thing to have an exclusively gay time in a Disney movie.” According to the FDC survey, published by Christian Headlines, focused on the American public, 95% of Christians, who often go to the movies, do not feel comfortable with the new Disney production, believing that it makes an apology for Gay lifestyle.
The survey also revealed that 94% of Christian consumers are less likely to spend their money on any Disney production in general, due to the inclusion of this gay character.
The US is not the only place where boycotts have taken place, including in movie theaters. Because it is a PG movie, aimed at children, Malaysia banned it and that is why the edited Disney version is shown, that is, the controversial scene has been removed.
In Russia, the deputies asked that the film be censored by the government, since it violates the law that prohibits scenes of homosexuality from being exposed to children.
The film was released on the 16th in Brazil, in its original version, uncut and uncensored. Some political leaders – such as Deputy Victorio Galli and religious leaders – such as Pastor Silas Malafaia, are calling for a boycott not only of the production, but also of Disney.
