USA.- The Biblical story of Samson was released in theaters in several countries on February 16. It is the film story about a man chosen by God to deliver Israel. Compared to superhero productions, for specialists, it can be a “new era” of faith film production.
The expectation of the production company Pure Flix is great. This is the largest budget in its history. The more than 4 million dollars, double his biggest success so far: “God Is Not Dead.”
Although with some dose of fiction, the script shows the trajectory of Samson according to the Book of Judges. The main character is played by South African actor Taylor James.
At press conferences, he revealed that he received a “vision” long before he knew he would play the biblical role. “I had a vision a few years ago that I was to grow my hair out and strive to have a certain physical appearance,” James said.
Some time later, a friend, whom he recognizes as a prophet, gave him a word. He claimed that the actor would “come home and lead his people.” At first he didn’t understand what it meant. Only when he was given the part to play Samson three years later did those things become clear.
Although he has spent most of his life in the United States, James was born in South Africa, where the feature film was filmed. He also sensed that the production would be an opportunity to speak of his faith to the world. On the first page of the script he received was the sentence: “Samson, a man who led his people.”
«I grew up in an evangelical family, frequenting Sunday School going to church. The morals and ethics that I learned have stayed with me to this day,” says James. The story of Samson is quite well known and has already been transported to film and television, but the focus of the new film is different, the producers guarantee. With many action scenes and combat, it is being compared to Marvel and DC blockbusters. Interestingly, James made a “tip” in Justice League, as a soldier from the kingdom of Atlantis.
After all, Samson was the equivalent of a superhero in his day, when it took superhuman strength to free his people from the Philistines. “Clearly, that strength came from God,” recalls the actor.
For James the message is clear: “In the film, we show the moment when the Spirit of God enters Samson and the moment it leaves him. But today, God is always with us.
The expectation of the producers is that Samson’s story of passion, betrayal and redemption serves to inspire the public. “The bottom line is no matter how many times we fail or feel defeated, we must always renew our strength in Him, because God loves us no matter what happens,” he concluded.
