In this garden, which is also known as the Garden of Earthly Delights, there were two trees: the tree of Life and the tree of knowledge. But, one day Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating of the fruit of the forbidden tree and they were expelled from Eden. God’s command for Adam

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate it and take care of it. And he gave her this order: “You may eat from all the trees in the garden, except only the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. You must not eat of it, because the day you do, you will be subject to death.” (Genesis 2:15-17).

The disobedience of Adam and Eve

“1 The serpent was the most cunning of all the animals of the field that the Lord God had made, and he said to the woman, “So God commanded you not to eat from any tree in the garden?”
2 The woman replied, “We can eat the fruit of all the trees in the garden.
3 But concerning the tree that is in the middle of the garden, God has told us: “Do not eat from it or touch it, or you will be subject to death.”
4 The serpent said to the woman, “No, they will not die.
5 God knows very well that when you eat from that tree, your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the tree was appetizing to eat, pleasing to the eye and desirable to gain insight, she took some of its fruit and ate; then he gave it to her husband, who was with her, and he also ate.
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they discovered that they were naked. That is why loincloths were made, interweaving fig leaves.
8 When they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden at the hour when the breeze was blowing, they hid from him among the trees of the garden.
9 But the Lord God called the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
10 “I heard your footsteps in the garden, he answered, and I was afraid because I was naked. That’s why I hid.”
11 He replied, “And who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I forbade you?».
12 The man replied, “The woman you placed by my side gave me the fruit, and I ate from it.” 13 The Lord God said to the woman, “How did you do such a thing?” The woman replied, “The snake seduced me and I ate.” (Genesis 3: 1-13).

The tree of the knowledge of good and evil

When God created Adam and Eve, he gave them the ability to choose; this free will allowed them to decide between obeying God’s command, or disobeying it by doing their own will.

Have you ever wondered what this tree of the knowledge of good and evil symbolizes in our lives today? Well, it represents those things that, although we know that they go against the Word of God, are too attractive to us. When God speaks to us, He does it with wisdom, because He knows everything that is going to happen and the consequences of disobedience, therefore, He warns us about things so that we are careful and get rid of evil, even so, sometimes we decide to sin deliberately and suffer the consequences. However, we must remember that, although we have fallen into temptation, we can approach God through Jesus to ask for mercy and grace: “Because we don’t have a High Priest unable to sympathize with our weaknesses; on the contrary, he was subjected to the same tests as us, except for sin. Let us go, then, confidently to the throne of grace, in order to obtain mercy and obtain the grace of opportune help. (Hebrews 4:15-16).
