Angelus
angelus text
The Angel of the Lord announced to Mary.
And she conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Ave Maria.
Here is the handmaid of the Lord.
Let it be to me according to your word.
Ave Maria.
The word became flesh.
And camped between us.
Ave Maria.
Pray for us, Holy Mother of God.
So that we are worthy of achieving the promises of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
let’s pray
Pour out, Lord, your grace on us, who, by the announcement of the angel, have known the incarnation of your Son, so that we may arrive through his passion and his cross to the glory of the resurrection.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Text of the Regina Coeli
(Regina Coeli is the angelus of Easter time, that is, the one that is prayed during the 50 days following Resurrection Sunday until the day of the Ascension of the Lord).
Queen of heaven, rejoice, hallelujah,
because the Lord, whom you deserved to take, hallelujah,
He is risen, according to his word, alleluia.
Pray to God for us, hallelujah.
V. Rejoice and be glad, Virgin Mary, alleluia.
A. Because the Lord is truly risen, alleluia.
Prayer: O God, that by the resurrection of your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, you have deigned to bring joy to the world! Grant us, we pray, that through the intercession of his Mother, the Virgin Mary, we may attain the joys of eternal life. Through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
What is the Angelus?
The Angelus is a Catholic prayer that commemorates the Annunciation and Incarnation of the Son of God. It takes its name from its first words in the Latin version, Angelus Domini nuntiavit Mariæ. It consists of three texts that summarize the mystery. For each one, a verse is prayed, followed by their response, and then a Hail Mary is prayed. It is a prayer that is usually prayed at 12 noon in the Catholic Church.
