CANADA. – The Supreme Court of Canada ruled on Thursday the 9th that certain sexual acts between humans and animals are legal. In an unexpected move, they acquitted a man on trial for raping his own daughters on the charge of “bestiality.”
The man would have “spread peanut butter on the genitals of his victims while the dog licked his family, he filmed the act.”
By seven votes to one, the judges decided that human beings are allowed to have sexual contact with animals if there is no “penetration.” In its decision, the court ruled that current law does not clearly define what is considered bestiality in the country.
The lawyers of the man with the initials DLW, questioned the lack of clarity of the law so that they will cancel the charges against their client.
As reported by The Independent, the Supreme Court understands that “in essence, penetration is an act that determines the offence.”
“DLW” had been sentenced to 16 years in prison. The request for annulment of said complaint was an attempt to reduce the sentence. Judge Rosalie Abella, the only one to vote against, said that “sexual acts with animals are inherently deviant, even if there is no penetration.”
The decision angered animal rights activists. Camille Labchuk, who runs the NGO Animal Justice, complained: “As of today, Canadian law gives abusers permission to use animals for their own sexual gratification.”
For her, “this is totally unacceptable, contrary to society’s expectations, and cannot be allowed to continue.” She said this only motivates her fight for law reform to protect animals. She did not comment on the fact that the children were the victims in the case.
Situation in other countries
Condemned since Biblical times (Leviticus 20), the practice has been the subject of debate in other countries. In the United States, a 61-year-old man was recently arrested in Ohio for committing sexual acts with dogs.
Animal rights activists demanded that the state be more explicit that sex between humans and animals be prohibited under state law. In fact, Ohio is one of 11 states in the United States that do not have any anti-bestiality laws. This has resulted in the proceedings ending without conviction.
The Daily Mail revealed a trend in Europe, so-called “animal brothels”, where many people want to exercise their right to have sex with animals as more of a “life choice”.
In Germany, for example, bestiality was legalized in 1969 for cases in which the animal is not “significantly” mistreated. Denmark and Norway have similar legislation, allowing the act if “animals do not suffer”.
In Brazil, the law establishes prison sentences of one to three years and fines for those who commit the act of bestiality or bestiality.
