Carlos Rivas: A controversial pastor for condemning with the gospel

.- (Special report) Pastor Carlos Rivas is an evangelical leader from Guatemala. His controversial and condemnatory preaching has trapped thousands of evangelicals in Latin America.

The pastoral ministry of Carlos Rivas has received the attention of thousands for his controversial preaching and remarks, and for his departure from the Prince of Peace ministry.

Rivas has not needed majestic settings or publicity in the media, he has known how to make controversy a bridge to viralize his preaching.

Rivas’s YouTube account bears a strong resemblance to the sensational videos that haunt the network, with headlines such as: “Shocking”, “last minute”, “urgent”; evoking a sense of urgency that grabs netizens.

Even when Rivas falls into controversies, he uses them to create more content.

With a strong condemnatory communication against sin, Rivas has become not only a pastor with influence in thousands, but also an effective generator of content on social networks.

The pastor in multiple videos has said that his goal with the gospel is not to acquire great material possessions, as has happened with some controversial evangelists. Instead, Rivas lives in a humble house with his wife and five children.

Carlos Rivas’ children are Raquel (4), Gabriel (9), Keisy (13), Yuliana (18) and Ashley (15).

Through YouTube, the pastor made a live broadcast where he introduced his relatives. Rivas clarified that he did not show his family, since God did not call him to do so.

In the video, Carlos Rivas explained that he started Christianity when his son Keisy was born. The doctors said that he had no hope of life, however, the Lord worked to save him. This was the way God called him to the gospel, said the Central American preacher.

controversial preaching

Pastor Carlos Rivas’ sermons are based on controversial topics that generate debates in churches, such as the use of makeup, the use of women’s pants, the celebration of Father’s Day, Mother’s Day and Christmas, among other topics with divided Christian opinions. .

Rivas’s message has also been intensely aimed at condemning religious, pastors, church musicians and people far from the gospel who live in sin.

Through a recorded sermon, you can hear how Rivas condemns women who wear makeup:

“Why do you think there are churches where the young ladies are painted as if they were prostitutes, as if they were clowns? Do you know why? Because there is the spirit of Jezebel.”

In many of Rivas’ videos, he is seen strongly condemning sin and assuring that there are many false Christians within the churches.

Although Rivas is condemned as a legalist, he responds: “What is black is black and what is white is white” (alluding to good and evil).

Rivas also indicated in the middle of a service that his message was not focused on criticizing women, pastors and members of the church, but instead seeks to condemn sin.

In one of his sermons, Rivas indicated that he had to use strong words so that they understood him from the most to the least studied.

However, many on social media have not liked his message of condemnation, which even reveals the name of sinners from the pulpit.

But just as the pastor has detractors, the videos of his preaching are commented on by hundreds of Internet users who defend him.

dismissed from the ministry

In 2021, Pastor Carlos Rivas denounced in multiple videos that he was removed from the ministry where he preached, since his preaching did not please the leaders.

The ministry to which Rivas tried on many occasions not to allude is the Prince of Peace Evangelical Church of Guatemala.

As I reviewed ChristianNews.com A few months ago, Pastor Rivas preached with this ministry for a period of 8 years.

According to Rivas, he received orders not to preach on controversial topics such as Christmas, the use of makeup on Christian women, the use of women’s pants or women’s haircuts.

Rivas said that the ministry made the decision to remove him in case he did not abide by the limits on his preaching, so in response he decided to resign.

Subsequently, the Prince of Peace ministry published a statement in which it assured that Rivas never belonged to its ranks, in addition, the ministry indicated that Rivas did not have any “ministerial license” that accredited him as pastor of the Prince of Peace.

The ministry also prohibited pastors and churches linked to Prince of Peace from inviting Carlos Rivas to church religious events.

Conviction of Ana González

The pastor led a controversial debate with the singer Ana González, after having said that she was not a Christian and that her music was far from the gospel.

Rivas took advantage of the controversy and released multiple videos about the fight with González, even so he titled some of his sermons that spoke very little about the singer.

The channel The Duck 502 explained how the dispute started. It all started with a recorded sermon in which Carlos Rivas says: “Now there is music that is sung by a girl who is not Christian at all. I don’t know the name of this girl who sings I have a new love. (…) Christian is not, let’s stop clowning ».

Later, Ana González responded to the pastor in a cult, the video of which went viral: “We would like Carlos Rivas to be here. He speaks what he wants, and he even treats you like a child of the devil and the devil has no children, ”said the singer.

When the tensions between Ana González and Carlos Rivas were at their peak, they had to preach at an event organized by the group high anointing.

Rivas preached at the event about those hated because of the gospel. The pastor related what is indicated in the Bible, that many will be persecuted for carrying the word of God.

During the sermon, Rivas said that many of the temples are full of false Christians and assured: “If you want to be a preacher hated and hated by the demon-possessed, preach the word, point out the sin and you will see how the people do. to start hating.”

The 502 indicated that Rivas chose this verse due to his dispute with Ana González.

During his sermon, Rivas told Ana González that he had called Christ a liar, after having denied that the Devil has children.

After the pastor finished preaching, Ana González began his preaching, who continued the dispute with Rivas.

Sons of the devil

“I believe that the word of the Lord is effective and that no one fights with the Word of God. (…) Unfortunately, it is that the coronavirus is not the problem, the coronavirus is nothing compared to the envy of the virus of hatred towards others. I imagine what brother Carlos Rivas said, the one who rhymes the words… The word of God is so great that it speaks to us, but God does not treat you as a son of the Devil,” said González.

The singer went on to tell Rivas that he couldn’t call people the son of the devil. “I can’t tell you, son of the devil, when I don’t know how you live before the presence of the Lord.”

Furthermore, González told Rivas that only the Lord can judge others.

González also referred to the words that Rivas had said against her: “I don’t know what God has done in his life and he doesn’t know what God has done in mine either. One day he said that I was not a Christian at all, but in reality he does not know my heart and we all know that we worship one God… ”.

Ministry

Carlos Rivas raised funds and founded a religious temple called the Alpha and Omega ministry in July 2021.

The pastor made a public invitation through social networks to attend the inauguration of the two-story temple.

Despite the criticism received for his forceful messages, the preacher has not changed his way of carrying the gospel, and less than two weeks ago he made it known through a video in a cult where he preached and strongly criticized false religious and women who put on makeup.
