Catholic Basic Prayers

Our father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your Name; let your kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread; forgive our offenses, as we also forgive those who offend us; lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. Amen.

Ave Maria

God save you, Mary; full of grace; the Lord is with you; Blessed are You among all women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The creed

I believe in God, Almighty Father, Creator of Heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the work and grace of the Holy Spirit, was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under the power of Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried, descended into hell, on the third day he rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he is to come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and eternal life. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, almighty Father, creator of heaven and earth, of everything visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, born before all ages: God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not created, of the same nature as the Father, by whom everything was done; that for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the power of the Holy Spirit he was incarnated from Mary, the Virgin, and became man; and for our sake he was crucified in the time of Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried, and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and again he will come in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, Lord and giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son receive the same adoration and glory. And that he spoke through the prophets. I believe in the Church, which is one, holy, catholic and apostolic. I confess that there is only one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I await the resurrection of the dead and the life of the future world. Amen.

Glory

Glory to the Father, Glory to the Son, Glory to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, now and forever, forever and ever. Amen.

God save you, Queen and Mother of mercy, life, sweetness and our hope; God saves you. To You we call the exiled children of Eve; to You we sigh, moaning and crying, in this valley of tears. Ea, then, Lady, our lawyer, return to us those your merciful eyes; and after this exile show us Jesus, blessed fruit of your womb. Oh most merciful, oh pious, oh sweet always Virgin Mary!

Pray for us, Holy Mother of God, that we may be worthy of achieving the promises of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The sign of the cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

act of contrition

My Lord Jesus Christ, God and true Man, Creator, Father and my Redeemer; because you are who you are, Infinite Kindness, and because I love you above all things, it weighs me with all my heart that I have offended you; it also weighs me down because you can punish me with the pains of hell. Helped by your divine grace, I firmly propose never to sin again, confess and fulfill the penance that was imposed on me. Amen.

Prayer to the Guardian Angel

Guardian angel,
sweet company,
don’t forsake me
neither by night nor by day.

if you forsake me,
what will be of me?
Guardian angel,
pray to God for me.

Acts of faith, hope and charity.

I believe in God the Father; I believe in God the Son; I believe in God the Holy Spirit; I believe in the Holy Trinity; I believe in my Lord Jesus Christ, God and true Man. I hope in God the Father; I hope in God the Son; I hope in God the Holy Spirit; I hope in the Holy Trinity; I hope in my Lord Jesus Christ, God and true Man. I love God the Father; I love God the Son; I love God Holy Spirit; I love the Holy Trinity; I love my Lord Jesus Christ, God and true Man.

act of repair

My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love you. I ask your forgiveness for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope or love you.

Prayer to Jesus Crucified

Look at me, oh my beloved and good Jesus!, prostrated in your divine presence I beg you, with the greatest fervor, print in my heart vivid feelings of faith, hope and charity, true sorrow for my sins and very firm resolution never to offend you; while I, with the greatest affection and compassion of which I am capable, I am considering and contemplating your five wounds, keeping in mind what the prophet David said of You, oh good Jesus: “They have pierced my hands and my feet and they can count all my bones.”

I adore you devote in Spanish

I adore you with devotion, hidden God, truly hidden under these appearances. To You my heart submits completely, and surrenders totally to contemplate you.

When judging of You, the sight, the touch, the taste are wrong; but the ear is enough to firmly believe; I believe all that the Son of God has said: nothing is truer than this Word of truth.

Only Divinity was hidden on the Cross, but here Humanity is also hidden; yet I believe and confess both, and ask for what that repentant thief asked for.

I do not see the wounds as Tomás saw them but I confess that you are my God: make me believe more and more in You, that I hope in You and that I love You.

Memorial of the death of the Lord! Living bread that gives life to man: grant my soul to live from You and always savor your sweetness.

Lord Jesus, good Pelican, cleanse me, unclean, with your Blood, from which a single drop can free the entire world from all crimes.

Jesus, whom I now see hidden, I beg you, that what I long for so much be fulfilled: that when I look at your face face to face, I be happy seeing your glory.

Amen.
