Catholic Serenity Prayer | complete prayer

Reinhold Niebuhr was an American philosopher and theologian who wrote this beautiful prayer in 1943. But for those of us who believe in the Bible, Saint Francis of Assisi was the creator of these beautiful words in the serenity prayer.

Why should you trust the Serenity Prayer?

In moments of despair, emergencies, problems in life, peace is the best weapon to combat it. That is why we must pray and trust in God to find that peace that is so sought after, since it is the only being that can provide it. And he says it in a verse from our Holy Bible:

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7)

Every serenity prayer must be done with faith, with confidence that God, our Lord will fix all our problems. We must let our lord into our mind, soul and heart to have that “peace”.

Catholic Serenity Prayer for Saint Francis of Asis

God,
I come to ask you to grant me serenity
to accept those things that I cannot change,
the courage to change the things that I can change
and your wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time,
accepting adversity as a path to peace,
asking, as God did, on this earth a sinner as he is,
and not how I would like it to be.

I believe in you and that you will do things so that they are well
if I surrender to your will,
so that I can be happy in this life with my family
and happy with you in the next one.

Amen

Serenity Prayer for alcoholics

Jesus Christ my Savior and Redeemer
please listen to my humble prayer
for the sins I have committed so far grant me forgiveness
Well, with your help I try to be a better person every day.

Give me temperance so that I do not fall into temptation again
for vice is an abhorrent sin
that detracts from the nobility and dignity of man
I want to leave my ignominious past behind
and be a dignified and exemplary person
so give me serenity above all
to no longer feel that terrible need to drink
You rule over my head, give me restraint
so that I am no longer a reason for shame but for pride.

Amen

Christ, our savior, welcomes us with open arms to calm our suffering in the last sentence of the prayer. If we surrender to him we can be happy in this life, with him and forever.

“Come to me all you who are labored and loaded.” Matthew 11:28
