Christian groups criticize Biden for stopping aid to Venezuelans

.- Christian groups have demonstrated against the new immigration policies of the United States for failing to receive all Venezuelans fleeing the precarious conditions of their country, reports Gospel Prime.

Christians specifically criticized President Joe Biden for pushing these new policies.

Now the United States will only help 24 thousand new Venezuelans to enter the country in a humanitarian way.

To opt for one of the 24,000 people that the United States delivers, Venezuelans must show that they have someone in the United States capable of supporting them, they must have the vaccination schedule requested by the United States and undergo tests.

Venezuelans who do not have permission to enter the United States and attempt to enter the country will be deported to Mexico, and will lose the possibility of obtaining legal permission.

Krish O’Mara Vignarajah, president of the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, expressed concern that the new policy only provides temporary protection for a very limited subset of the millions of Venezuelans forced to leave their homeland.

“This will undoubtedly affect Venezuelans who do not have close ties to the US, but who nonetheless deserve due process and protection. That their removals are being cloaked by public health concerns just weeks after President Biden declared the pandemic ‘over’ is deeply disturbing,” he said.

For her part, Elket Rodríguez, leader of Baptist Fellowship Cooperative’s immigrant and refugee defense team, also criticized the new policy and said that Baptist Fellowship Cooperative cannot support the proposal to parole or deport Venezuelans without considering the validity of their asylum applications.
