CHRISTIANNEWS.COM- This Tuesday, leaders of the London churches (in the United Kingdom), launched an initiative, which affirms Christian teachingabout marriage, sex, and identity.
The Ministers’ Declaration of Great Love commits ministers to demonstrate pastoral sensitivity while rejecting the belief that “all sexual desires and inclinations are sacred.” and defend marriage, as the union between a man and a woman, for life, reports The Christian Today.
The declaration invites ministers, and agents of different Christian denominations, to affirm a definition, of their shared beliefs, on these issues, and “that the essential and immutable place of this teaching is its foundation in Christ’s own example of love“and our duty as ministers of the gospel is to defend it, teach it and announce it”.
signed by meas of 800 ministers
Rev Dave Gobbett, co-author of the statement, Senior Pastor of Highfields Church Cardiff, and Trustee of Word Alive, commented:
“At a time when people are so confused, about what it really means to love each otherAnd how to define love In fact, it is more important than ever that Christian ministers and pastors agree with the definition given to us by the Lord Jesus Christ in John 15: 13.
“The love defined by Jesus in his word”
The signatories of the declaration, agree to abide by Christian doctrine on marriage, sexuality, and identityand even if it involves the threat of legal sanctions, financial penalties, and social stigma.
“We will not surrender the great love that Jesus showed us, and to which he calls us, to the much lesser version of love, which focuses on the satisfaction and even adoration of oneself, the autonomy of the individual, and the belief that all sexual desires and inclinations are sacred,” the statement reads.
God’s good design
“Children and young people are growing up in a highly individualistic society, where they are no longer taught the absolute truth, and judgments about morality are discouraged”, they express.
“Therefore, it has never been so crucial, that we clearly show them who we are, and how we are designedto live with respect, to relationships and sexuality”.
“Furthermore, not teaching is leaving children and young people vulnerable to physical and emotional damage resulting from experimentation with sexuality. Sometimes that can go against the prevailing winds of culture, or go against what friends or family think, but it’s the right thing to do.”
