CHRISTIANNEWS.COM.- Last weekend, a church in Nicholasville, Kentucky, USA, raised 145 thousand dollars for Ukrainian refugees.
Hundreds of people reportedly packed the lobby of the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church this past Saturday morning, March 26, CBN News reports.
“We came to buy some loaves of bread to support Ukrainians and help them with the problems they are experiencing right now,” said couple Gary and Linda Fleck.
Gary stressed the importance of helping refugees and Victor Selepina, organizer of the event, said he was surprised by the number of people who attended. “Honestly, it’s been great to see people come together like this. It’s absolutely amazing,” he said gratefully.
fulfilled prophecy
Many members of the Nicholasville Church, like Paul Kononets, have family in the Ukraine. “My uncles and cousins are there. They live in the western part, where there are not many attacks, so people are opening their houses to receive Ukrainians from the north and east,” he stated.
Selepina revealed that years ago, the church received a prophecy to prepare to help the refugees: “It was a prophecy for our church and the people here know it. And ever since, we’ve been preparing.”
The money raised from the sale of bread and cakes will be sent to churches in the Ukraine that have ties to the church in Kentucky. The goal is for Christians to have the resources to buy food and supplies for the refugees.
churches in union
Several other organizations in the US are reportedly raising funds to help Ukrainians in their fight against Russian forces invading the country.
Churches are becoming veritable “supply depots” in this time of war, in various countries.
In Brazil, there is a movement that brings together churches from all over the world to help Ukrainians at this time. “There are more than 100,000 churches in 108 countries, with the desire to love and care for these people,” said Pastor Elías Dantas.
Ukrainians who have already arrived in Brazil can count on accommodation and food, as well as clothing, health items, resources for children and Portuguese classes. Also, after the initial care, they will have the opportunity to work to fend for themselves.
“We are here to serve, because the love of Jesus unites us,” said the pastor who represents the movement and conveys the true meaning of the church in the world.
