The apostle Paul addresses the Colossians

In its epistle to the colossiansSaint Paul transmits to them the doctrinal teachings to combat the heresy that had spread in the Church of Colossae, and shares with them some practical exhortations on the Christian conduct they should adopt to face such a situation. Let us bear in mind that, in this letter, Saint Paul also reminds the Colossians the work of Jesus and his divine glory, exalting the person of Christ, with the purpose of placing him at the center of the faith of believers. Subsequently, St. Paul also alludes to various themes related to family life, work and relationships with others, while declaring that Jesus is the only one who can satisfy the needs of the human being.

Next, we briefly present the four chapters that make up the epistle to the Colossians:

  • In the first chapter, after having professed his faith in Jesus Christ and recalled his mission, Saint Paul calls the Colossians to conversion.
  • In the second chapter, the apostle encourages the Colossians to stand firm in their faith, reminding them of certain biblical foundations and warning them about those who wanted to lead them away from the faith.
  • In the third chapter we can find many exhortations and practical advice on how to live the teachings of Christ.
  • Finally, in the last chapter, St. Paul encourages the Colossians to remain prayerful and wise, then ends his letter with final greetings.
