CHRISTIANNEWS.COM.- That John Futrell is alive and moving today is a true miracle. The US Christian broke almost all the bones in his body after suffering a serious accident.
John, who is a logger, and two other colleagues were on their way to work when the truck they were traveling in skidded off the road, hit a tree and caught fire. He was the only one who survived the accident.
When his wife Debra and their two children found out about the accident, they immediately began praying as they made their way to the hospital, CBN News reports.
“I prayed all the time. He has always been the backbone of this family. I just cried out to the Lord and said, ‘He just can’t die,’” Debra said.
The wife contacted family, friends and brothers at her church, New Vision Ministries, forming a great prayer chain for John’s life. Pastor Sandy Outlaw rushed to the hospital to provide spiritual assistance to the family.
“Upon hearing the news from John, he was not only a member of the congregation but also a pillar in our church, a good friend. It was a very emotional moment for me,” said the pastor.
Arriving at the hospital, the family was told that John had little chance of survival. “The doctor said, ‘He has a broken neck, a broken back, a broken shoulder, ten broken ribs, a broken sternum, and third-degree burns. If he can last 24 hours, he’s going to have to be a strong man,’” Debra recalled.
miracle prayers
Brent, the couple’s youngest son, declared full of faith, “Well, my dad is a strong man and he’ll make it.”
“I got down on my knees and said, ‘God, we can’t do anything. Control the hands of these doctors. Do what you have to do to take care of him and my mother,’” said Jonathan, the eldest son.
As an answer to prayers, John survived the first 24 hours. After two days, his health stabilized and he was placed in an induced coma. Due to third-degree burns, doctors were unable to perform surgery immediately, risking John being paralyzed.
“There was a lot of prayer for John during this time. And we trusted that God was with him and that regardless of the outcome, he would be fine spiritually,” Pastor Outlaw explained.
Bones restored by Christ
Over the next three weeks, the man underwent ten surgeries to repair the burn damage.
Days later, John’s neurosurgeon broke the incredible news to the family. “The broken bones in his neck and spine miraculously healed and surgery would no longer be necessary.”
“He said, ‘Look at the x-rays. He heals himself, lying on the bed. I said, ‘Thank you, Jesus!’” Debra recalled.
Soon after, John came out of his coma and was transferred to rehab. Just over two months after the accident, he was released from the hospital and returned home.
“It was one of the happiest feelings I have ever had. There were so many people praying to God for me. I think he was the strongest thing involved in my recovery, my healing, ”he testified.
“There is a God and prayer works,” added his son Brent. Fully recovered from the accident, today John returned to his job as a logger.
“No matter what your situation is, no matter where you are, prayer works, prayer changes things, and God still works miracles,” Pastor Outlaw concluded.
