Date of Christ’s crucifixion
Date of Christ’s crucifixion
Colin Humphreys and Graeme Waddington, scientists at the University of Oxford (England), believe they have determined the exact date of the death of Jesus Christ. Based on the Bible and Roman sources, they knew that such an event occurred on a Friday of the month of Nisan, before the Passover of the Hebrews, between the years 26 and 36 of our era, that is, the period in which Pontius Pilate was Judean procurator. To obtain more information, they reconstructed the Hebrew calendar and through a process of elimination, in which they considered Jewish, Biblical and Roman references, they obtained two possible dates as a result: April 7, 30 and April 3, 33.
On the other hand, on the day of the crucifixion, according to the Book of Acts of the Apostles, the Moon was seen to be blood red, which indicates an eclipse. By calculating the dates of lunar eclipses visible in Jerusalem, scientists have formulated the theory that Jesus Christ died on April 3, 33.
