Decalogue of serenity. Just for today

Decalogue of serenity. Just for today

Saint John XXIII, a visionary Pope with a young soul who launched the Church into the adventure of the Second Vatican Council, left young people with some practical advice to live intensely:

1. Just for today I will try to live exclusively from day to day, not wanting to solve my life’s problems all at once.

2. Just for today I will take the utmost care of my appearance; I will be courteous in my manners, I will not criticize anyone and I will not pretend to criticize or punish anyone, but myself.

3. Just for today I will be happy with the certainty that I have been created to find happiness, not only in the next world but in this one as well.

4. Just for today I will adapt to the circumstances, without pretending that the circumstances adapt to all my whims and desires.

5. Just for today I will dedicate ten minutes to a good reading; remembering that, as food is necessary for the life of the body, so good reading is necessary for the life of the soul.

6. Just for today I will do a good deed and not tell anyone.

7. Just for today I will do at least one thing that I don’t want to do; and if I feel offended in my feelings, I will try that nobody finds out.

8. Just for today I will make a detailed schedule to fill my day. Perhaps I did not fully fulfill, but what’ll write. And I will guard against two calamities: haste and indecision.

9. Just for today I will firmly believe, even if circumstances prove otherwise, that the good Providence of God takes care of me as if no one else existed in the world.

10. Just for today I will have no fears. In a particular way, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe in goodness.
