Devotion of the first five Saturdays of the month
Origin of the devotion of the first five Saturdays of the month
In the second apparition of the Virgin in Fatima, on June 13, 1917, she told Lucia that Jesus Christ wanted to establish devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the world and for this he asks that the practice of the Five First Saturdays be established.
For many centuries, the Church has considered Saturday a day dedicated to intensifying devotion to the Blessed Virgin, Mother of God and our loving Mother.
In the apparition of July 13, 1917, the Virgin Mary told Lucia: “I will come to ask for the reparative communion of the first Saturdays.”
On December 10, 1925, the Virgin Mary fulfilled the promise made to Lucia, who tells us like this:
“That day, while I was in my room in Pontevedra, Spain, the Blessed Virgin appeared to me and, next to me, as if suspended in a luminous cloud, the Child.
The Blessed Virgin placed her hand on my right shoulder and, at the same time, showed me a heart surrounded by thorns that she held in her hand.”
Then the Child said:
“Have compassion on the heart of your Most Holy Mother, which is covered with thorns that ungrateful men continually stick into it without anyone making an act of reparation to remove them.”
And immediately the Blessed Virgin said:
“Look, my daughter, my heart is surrounded by thorns that ungrateful men continually nail me with blasphemies and ingratitude, you, at least, try to console me and say that:
“All those who for five consecutive months, on the first Saturday, go to confession and receive Holy Communion, pray the Holy Rosary and keep me company for 15 minutes meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, in order to make amends, I promise to assist you in the hour of death with all the graces necessary for his salvation.
Why is it five on Saturdays?
When Sister Lucia referred to her confessor the request of the Virgin, he told her: Why 5 and not 9 like the first Fridays, or 7 like the pains of the Virgin?
Lucía recounts that while she was in the Church with the Lord on the night of May 29-30, 1930 in Tuy (Spain), and talking with Him about this question, the following was revealed to her:
“My daughter, the reason is the following: there are five main types of blasphemies committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:
1) Blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception
2) Blasphemies against her Virginity
3) The blasphemies against her Divine Maternity, refusing at the same time to recognize her as the Mother of men.
4) The blasphemies of those who publicly try to instill in the hearts of children indifference, contempt and even hatred towards this Immaculate Mother.
5) The offenses of those who insult her directly in her Sacred Images”.
“Here is the reason why the Immaculate Heart of Mary has suggested that I ask for this small reparation and, in consideration of her, move my mercy to forgive the souls that have had the misfortune to offend her.”
Devotion of the first five Saturdays of the month
The conditions are as follows: During the first 5 consecutive Saturdays of the month, you must:
1- Go to confession (it can be done a few days before or after)
2- Receive Holy Communion in the Grace of God
3- Prayer of the Holy Rosary
4- Meditation for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the Rosary (one or more)
It is very important to remember that we must make Confession, Communion, pray the Holy Rosary and meditate on the mysteries in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
