CHRISTIANNEWS.COM.- The results of a survey in the United States showed that divorces among people who attend churches is doubling. The survey was carried out since 1970, and determined that today divorces among believers increased in relation to the first years surveyed.
A Gospel Prime publication indicates that, according to 2018 data, young Christians prefer to postpone marriage, while others remain single forever.
Likewise, the study revealed that today’s believers choose not to get married, compared to the first years of the study in 1978. In addition, it was determined that today’s Christians are twice as likely to divorce, equivalent to 17%.
The study points out that churches now have a great challenge to focus and receive divorced people, whose representation is increasing in their communities.
Information in Gospel Prime states that divorce is still seen as a sin in churches, and that causes divorced people to not exercise any leadership.
Divorced women attend more
“The divorced woman struggles with financial problems and thus assumes her responsibility with her children. But, the Christian tradition does not prevent them from attending church” reveals the survey.
“In general, divorced women are more likely to attend regularly than divorced men,” according to the report, released by Gospel Prime.
Divorced evangelical Christians attend churches more today than they did 40 years ago. The increase in divorced evangelical women is equivalent to 10%, a lower number compared to men, with a representation of 17%.
However, the survey reflects that the appreciation of divorce in churches may be changing, although the same conservative vision of divorce continues to be handled.
Regarding denominations, the survey determined that traditional Protestant and Catholic churches have fewer divorced believers compared to evangelical churches such as Pentecostals and Neo-Pentecostals.
