Gestural morning prayer to recite as a family

Adaptation of Pierre Lacroix’s prayer:

“Lord Jesus Christ, this morning I open the door to you (open your hands in front of your heart), of my whole being for the next 24 hours. Enter into everything that I am: my body, my soul, my heart, my senses, my memory, my intelligence, my joys and my sorrows. Lord Jesus, I welcome your real and miraculous Presence in all that I am (open hands palms up), including my wounds and my weaknesses. I also receive you in all my concerns and problems of this day. Lord, I confess that You have an infinite love (they draw a large circle with arms outstretched), for me and that I am your beloved son despite all my defects. As I begin this day, I accept all of your unconditional love for me. I give you total freedom to love me divinely. Whatever happens in the next 24 hours, I thank you in advance. As St. Paul says, I proclaim that: “…I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. (Galatians 2:20), (press right hand three times over heart, over “Jesus”). Lord Jesus , now you are in me for the next 24 hours. You live everything that I live. We are really together and I am happy to welcome you in my being.”

Tips for family morning prayer

Praying as a family is essential to give testimony to our children of our desire to put God first in our lives. Although children will always have the freedom to reject Christ, moments of family prayer remain privileged moments for an intimate encounter to take place. In addition, learning from a very young age to be faithful to their daily prayer is good training to continue being faithful when they are adults.

Some tips for family morning prayers:

  • Have a pleasant prayer corner that encourages reflection
  • Establish a fixed time for the prayer to begin and a prayer time that allows the little ones to stay focused until the end
  • Choose appropriate, short and enriching content. Different types of content can feed the prayer: a passage from the Bible, a meditation, a prayer read or recited from memory, etc.
  • Pray with the body: sometimes kneel down, hold hands, make gestures, etc.
  • Express yourself spontaneously to thank, apologize or entrust an intention.
