. – A man accused of sexually abusing his own daughter was “pardoned” by the victim’s mother, who explained that she is a “Jehovah’s Witness”.
However, the girl’s maternal aunt reported the case to the police. The statement appears in a ruling by the Court of Justice of Sao Paulo, (TJSP) Brazil, which, in September last year, refused to acquit the defendant.
The man was arrested in 2019 and later sentenced to 24 years in prison. Also according to her aunt, when she found out that the girl was sexually abused from the ages of 6 to 12, she told the girl’s mother, and she was surprised when she said that she already knew the facts.
“[La tía] he contacted his sister, the victim’s mother, who replied that she already knew the facts and even questioned the accused, and gave him the opportunity to admit his lewd acts. But the mother decided to forgive the defendant, ‘for being a Jehovah’s Witness,’” the court ruling narrates.
The aunt also stated that her sister had a “sick love for the defendant, with high emotional dependence,” and that she could be consenting to the acts so as not to separate from her husband.

It was the aunt who would have helped the girl find a police station to denounce her father. According to investigations, the girl was sexually abused for the first time when she was just 6 years old. The family lived in Mogi Guaçu.
The girl told police that her father caressed her in a strange way, manipulated her genitals and licked her, even at dawn. The abuse usually occurred when the two of them were alone in the house.
After the crimes, she said she began to have depression and panic attacks, as well as having difficulty relating to men and going to public places.
The victim’s mother stated in a statement that she did not know of the abuse. She also claimed that the man “always treated his children well, being loving to everyone around him and never showing suspicious behavior,” reported Yahoo News.
