Fervent devotee of the Virgin
The agencies brought the news. A twenty-year-old girl from Tenerife, Noelia Afonso Cabrera, had been chosen “Miss Europe 1970.” It was September 15. She already the previous year she had been elected “Miss Spain 1969”.
A journalist interviewed her:
– Tell me, Noelia. What is the happiest moment of your life? I guess this one, where you’re crowned queen, right?
– Nerd. The happiest day of my life was my First Communion…
– Well, how were you dressed?
– She was dressed as a bride.
– And how would you like to get married?
– First Communion. Yes, I would like to get married in white…
Noelia, «Miss Europe», had been sincere. She had never been as happy as the day of her First Communion… She had the illusion of wearing white, the color of purity…
It is that Noelia is devoted to the Virgin. She has prostrated herself many times at the feet of her Virgencita de la Candelaria, Patron Saint of the Canary Islands (Spain), and in her Mother’s lap she has learned that there is something greater and more important than a Beauty Contest and that is the whiteness of the soul. She is devoted to the Virgin, young and beautiful. She is Spanish for a reason. There is no better way to preserve purity than to approach the Immaculate Heart of our Mother, where she learns to love God and men with the simplicity and purity of a First Communion child.
