Footprints in the sand
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed that he was walking on the shore with the Lord. Crossing the sky appeared scenes from his life. For each scene, he noted two sets of footprints: one belonging to him, and one belonging to the Lord.
As the last scene of his life appeared before him, he looked down at the footprints in the sand. He noted that many times in his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that this happened in the most depressive and sad moments of his life. This really bothered him and he asked her about it:
‘Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the most difficult times of my life there was only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why you abandoned me.’
The Lord replied:
My precious son, I love you and I will never leave you. When you passed through time of suffering and saw only one set of footprints, then I carried you in my arms.
