CHRISTIANNEWS.COM.- Last week began Ramadan, the holy month of fasting and prayer for Muslims around the world.
For the past two years, Muslim worshipers have been unable to gather for collective prayers and Iftar gatherings (meals that end the daily fast), due to the Covid-19 pandemic, reports CBN News.
This year, public gatherings for Ramadan have resumed around the world, such as in Cairo, Jakarta, and Mecca. In New York, hundreds of Muslims gathered for the first time to publicly pray in Times Square, one of the city’s most famous landmarks.
Some Christians reportedly complained that Islamists were leaving their mosques to pray in the open air, aiming to claim a territorial victory in the US financial capital.
Others said they held their Ramadan prayers in Times Square to show that Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance.
Street preacher Samer Mohammed, a former Muslim who converted to Christ, took the opportunity to announce the truth of the Gospel to Islamists on the busy avenue.
«Jesus, you are alpha and omega, you are the living God, you are the living water, you are everything. We love you, Lord!” Samer preached in Times Square.
Some Muslims present at the collective prayer felt uncomfortable with the strong prayers of the evangelist and confronted him peacefully, asking him to be quiet or to leave the place.
Later, Samer recalled that everyone has the right to freedom of expression in the United States. “You’re free to do it, I’m free to do it if I want to,” he said. And one Islamist remarked: “You seem to be very ignorant.” “No, I just said that Jesus is Lord,” the preacher replied.
According to the former Muslim, Christians should pray for the salvation of Muslims during Ramadan.
“We need to pray that the Lord Jesus Christ opens the eyes of the Muslim and he can come to the light of the Lord. May the peace of God come to them and show them what is true. Because only Jesus is the truth, the way and the life. May the Gospel reach you”, concluded the preacher.
