Dr. Jordan Peterson is one of today’s most influential conservative intellectuals. His book “12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos” is not yet available in Portuguese, but it already has a captive audience due to its subtitled videos available on social networks.
The clinical psychologist, the Canadian Peterson has influenced the modern understanding of personality, being considered one of the greatest defenders of freedom of expression, continually opposing the discourse of “identity politics”.
He recently condemned the indoctrination of students in schools, where they are exposed to gender ideology, which he calls “completely insane doctrine.”
In a recently published podcast, he denounced the use of characters such as “gender unicorn” or “sexless teddy bear” to teach children that there is no such thing as biological sex, only the psychological meaning of intercourse being prevalent.
The psychologist said that in North America the new social experiment in the classroom is the “gender identity” card, where children are invited to rethink what their parents taught them all their lives. All students are instructed on how they can choose whatever “gender” they want, or none at all if they prefer.
Being a mythical animal, the unicorn can be seen as male, female, both, or even genderless (neuter). Some schools go so far as to do “tests” to find out which of these options the students identify with.
“This is basically aimed at preparing them before high school and higher education. “They are instilling that philosophy of identity earlier and earlier,” she stressed, making it clear that she sees “serious problems with that indoctrination.”
“The first problem is to ignore that there are biological differences between men and women. The vast majority of people know their biological sex and act accordingly. So the idea that identity and biology are independent is completely insane,” Peterson concludes.
“Another problem is trying to reimagine biological sex, describing it as ‘gender’, and saying that sexual orientation is ‘fluid’ is completely illogical,” he believes. The psychologist pointed out that all this speech is contradicted every time if someone talks about stopping being gay or seeking therapy for it.
“The LGBT lobby is fully armed against anything that hears conversion therapy and the idea that you could abandon a primarily homosexual identity,” he recalled. “That’s illegal in many states. [de Canadá y Estados Unidos]. But if there is a complete independence between biology, identity, expression and sexual preference, then there is no reason to suppose that a person cannot change.
“If gender is fluid and depends only on subjective choice, why create laws that regulate that? And why can’t that same argument be used by conservatives to talk about gays wishing they were straight?” she questioned.
For the intellectual, it would not be uncomfortable to see so many people defending an incoherent discourse if they did not have so much influence in contemporary society and media support.
Part of Peterson’s fame came in 2016, after she publicly opposed the government that went on to include so-called “gender expression” and “gender identity” in the Canadian Bill of Rights and Criminal Code ( transsexuality).
