God exists
A man went to a barbershop to get a haircut and trim his beard. As is customary in these cases, he struck up a pleasant conversation with the person who attended him.
They talked about many things and touched on various topics. Suddenly, they spoke of God. The barber said:
Look, gentleman, I don’t believe that God exists, as you say…
– But why do you say that? – asked the customer.
– Well, it’s very easy, just go out into the street to realize that God does not exist, or tell me, perhaps if God existed, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be no suffering or so much pain for humanity. I cannot think that there is a God who allows all these things.
The client thought for a moment, but did not want to answer to avoid an argument. The barber finished his job and the client went out of business. As soon as he left the barbershop, he observed a man with a beard and long hair on the street. Apparently it had been a long time since he had cut it and he looked very disheveled.
Then he entered the barbershop again and said to the barber:
– You know what? barbers don’t exist…
– How come they don’t exist? – asked the barber – Yes, I am here, and I am a barber.
– No! – said the customer – They don’t exist because if they did there wouldn’t be people with hair and beards as long as that man walking down the street.
– Ahh, barbers do exist, what happens is that those people don’t come to me.
– Exact! – said the client – that is the point, God does exist, what happens is that people do not go to Him and do not seek Him, that is why there is so much pain and misery…
