Good Friday prayer

The holy Week – at the end of the Lent – precedes Easter day. Good Friday is one of the days of Paschal Triduum that commemorates the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Good Friday prayer

“O God, your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, through his passion has destroyed the death that, as a consequence of ancient sin, reaches all men. Grant us to become like him. In this way, those of us who have carried engraved, by demand of human nature, the image of Adam, the earthly man, will carry engraved from now on, by the sanctifying action of your grace, the image of Jesus Christ, the heavenly man. He who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen.”

“Look at me, oh my beloved and good Jesus!, prostrate in your presence: I beg you, with the greatest fervor, print in my heart vivid feelings of faith, hope and charity, true sorrow for my sins and very firm resolution never to offend you; while I, with the greatest affection and compassion of which I am capable, I am considering and contemplating your five wounds, keeping in mind what the prophet David said about you, oh good Jesus: “They have pierced my hands and my feet and they can count all my bones.” (Psalm 21: 17-18)”

Prayer for the release of 33 souls from purgatory

“I adore you, O Holy Cross, that you were adorned by the most holy body of my Lord, covered in ink of his most precious blood. I adore you, my God, put on the cross for me. I adore you. Oh Holy Cross, for the love of him who is my Lord.”

Good Friday is a day during which people traditionally pray for all these souls who hope to rest in the arms of the Father. Jesus died to open the way for us to his Father. Offering him this prayer recited 33 times, kneeling before his cross, allows us to free 33 souls from purgatory.
