CHRISTIANNOTICE.COM.- Since the beginning of the week, on Monday -10-, the conflict between Israel and Hamas has increased, with more than a thousand rockets fired from the Gaza Strip against the Jewish nation, Israel responded with air strikes to attack terrorist militants.
Israeli deaths could be worse were it not for the Iron Dome anti-missile system, which is used to intercept rockets fired at Israel.
On Monday alone, 200 of the more than 480 rockets that struck Israel were destroyed by the system, which detects short-range missiles and intercepts them while still in the air.
The Iron Dome was developed by Israeli companies Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries, with financial and technical support from the United States, and is now being extensively tested amid attacks by Hamas terrorists.
How does interception of enemy missiles work?
The system is divided into three main elements: a radar to detect and track the path of enemy missiles, a command center and an interceptor missile launcher.
The Iron Dome then fires an interceptor missile at a speed that can reach 3,100 km/h, according to radar data. The missile is also equipped with a sensor and becomes more accurate, detonating the fragmentation warhead when the enemy projectile is close.
The system began to be developed in 2007. The first anti-missile battery was soon installed in March 2011, about 40 km from the Gaza Strip, near Beersheva, one of the favorite cities of Hamas attacks. Two weeks later, he successfully intercepted the first rocket.
Today, Israel has 10 anti-missile batteries scattered across its territory in strategic locations, and they can be transported from the site usually on trucks, each containing three or four missile launchers.
In a 90% of the cases, these rockets are intercepted by the Iron Dome, thus avoiding the death of civilians, as Israel confirmed this Thursday, out of a total of 1,600 rockets launched.
The Iron Dome has evolved in recent years, and now has a mobile version, the I-Dome, and a naval version, the C-Dome, the newspaper 20 Minutos reported.
