CHRISTIANNOTICE.COM.- Pastor Joshua Broome, a former porn actor, says he wanted to die after achieving fame in the porn industry. He says that his life went straight into a pit of confusion, he was at the end of his rope and believed that he had no viable path to follow.
For him, seeing beyond the porn industry seemed impossible. But after years of emotions, he could no longer compress his anguish and fears. But instead of giving up, he worked up the courage to leave the porn industry and rebuild his life. He is now a father, husband and pastor, defying the lies he told himself in the midst of despair.
Beginnings in porn
Broome began modeling as a teenager and set out to make it big in a city like Los Angeles or New York. For this reason he went to California, but he turned to porn after meeting someone who connected him with the industry.
At first he was hesitant, but for some reason he agreed to shoot his first adult film. “It’s so weird, looking back at who I am and how my mom raised me, I don’t know how I got to the point of saying ‘yes’ to that. We are all vulnerable at one point. I was at a peak of insecurity and I saw the opportunity,” Broome said.
After his first scene he thought to himself, “What did I just do?” But for some reason he continued to act in various types of porn for the next several years. “I don’t know where those 4 years went,” Broome said.
There were signs throughout his career where he exposed his internal battle over what he was doing. He would often come home from a photo shoot and in the shower he would describe how ‘disgusting’ he felt.
He began to hide his pain from those around him. He also distanced himself from his family and friends. “I literally wanted to die. I’m doing everything I can to mask how much it hurts,” Broome said.
New life
“After crying and crying and crying, I picked up the phone and called all the people I needed to call and said, ‘I’m out,'” Broone said, and within days he was out of the industry.
For the next 2 years he tried to rebuild a life for himself. He started working at a gym where he initially lied to everyone he knew about his past. He finally met a girl at the gym who asked him 2 questions: “Do you know who God is? Do you have a relationship with him?”
After that he started attending church with her. Years later they became engaged and married. They are now loving parents, and a Broome who once wanted to die is fully alive, preaching and sharing the faith that helped transform his life. “Jesus died for me.
