CHRISTIANNEWS.COM.- A photograph by Anas Baba has gone viral showing how the Iron Dome intercepts dozens of rockets launched by Hamas from Beit Lahia in the north of the Gaza Strip, reports the BBC.
Inhabitants of Ashkelon, Sderot have witnessed up close how their defense system intercepts various missiles.
The Israel Defense Forces reported that the Iron Dome, as it is also known, has intercepted more than 2,000 missiles launched from Gaza during the recent Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The Iron Dome has been operating since 2011 and with its system it tracks the danger of the missiles that are directed at Israel. Through programs, it analyzes which rockets can crash into populated areas or infrastructure and shoots them down with other missiles.
The Iron Dome is 90 percent effective. According to French 24 to date seven people have died in Israel during the conflicts. This figure has not increased in large part thanks to this system
Some organizations claim that there are technologies to violate the protection of the Iron Dome.
One of the cases in which the Iron Dome was unable to counter missiles occurred on Tuesday when two of these rockets hit Ashkelon south of Tel Aviv, killing two women and injuring 30. The mayor’s office indicated that several rockets fell in inhabited areas, reports swissinfo.ch.
To date, 10 of these batteries have been installed in Israel, which protect within a radius between 4 and 70 kilometers.
