In Honduras, 12 evangelical pastors have died from Covid-19

-In Honduras, the evangelical church begins to feel the growing ravages of the pandemic. At least a dozen pastors have died from Covid-19.

José Luis Canales, an evangelical pastor, asked the members of the church to take care of their pastors and refrain from requesting services, due to the high cases of coronavirus that have occurred in the country.

He pointed out that many of the believers gather, despite having symptoms of the disease and not complying with any social distancing protocol.

This is one of the likely reasons why the disease has spread among church members, including pastors.

“There is a life limit for all human beings, but many of us advance our end of existence and people die from alcohol, drugs, prostitution, commit suicide or do not keep the safety limits and we pastors have to take care, because we are people who are on the front line, because if someone dies we have to be there, if someone gets sick we have to be there,” reflected Canales.

“Don’t pressure us to meet up”

He was emphatic that pastors should take precautionary measures, exercise, eat healthy, since most of the spirit guides who have died are over 60 years of age.

“As pastors that we are, I ask our sheep not to pressure us to meet right now, we are using the media, do not make us feel bad, I have many families with Covid in my congregation,” said the pastor.

He added that they have already lost members of their church, “I tell the believers to take care of me, because I have given you a whole life, but right now do not condemn me if I am not there, I bring you food and put it in front of your house ”.

So far, the official list of the 12 pastors who have not won the battle against Covid-19 is unknown.

WHO recommendations

Since April 7, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued recommendations for religious leaders and confessional communities in the context of the pandemic.

The WHO described religious leaders as the “main source of support, comfort, guidance and direct provision of health care and social services” in the midst of the pandemic.

According to figures, in Honduras there are 45,098 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 1,423 people have died and 6,116 have recovered.
