Without a doubt, Jesus is the most amazing person who ever lived! He did amazing things while he was in our midst. For example, Jesus walked on the water being a man, which is a true miracle, because we as humans only have the ability to walk on earth. By the way, this impressive event is recorded in the new Testamentmore specifically in the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 14:22-23), the Gospel of Mark (Mark 6:45-53) and in the Gospel of John (John 6:16-21). In fact, in the Scriptures, the disciples of Jesus testify to this miracle that not only made them see the omnipotence of the Son of God, but also the importance of having a firm and strong faith to follow Jesus. We invite you to discover or return to meditate together in this bible passage that affirms our faith by believing that Jesus is God.

The Gospel Book of Matthew
“22 Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.
23 Then he went up the mountain to pray alone. And at sunset, she was still there, alone.
24 The boat was already very far from the coast, tossed by the waves, because they had a headwind.
25 Early in the morning Jesus went toward them, walking on the sea.
26 When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were afraid. “He is a ghost,” they said, and in fear they began to scream.
27 But Jesus said to them, “Relax, it’s me; don’t be afraid
28 Then Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, send me to meet you on the water.”
29 “Come,” Jesus said to him. And Peter, getting down from the boat, began to walk on the water towards him.
30 But when he saw the violence of the wind, he was afraid, and as he began to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately, Jesus stretched out his hand and held him, saying, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
32 As soon as they got into the boat, the wind died down.
33 Those who were in it fell down before him, saying, “Truly, you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 12:22-33)
“Man of little faith…”
The context
Jesus had just done the multiplication of the loaves and fishes, so the people were very excited and wanted to make him king. However, after dismissing the crowd, he asked his disciples to go before him to the other shore. In all three Gospels we see that the disciples had difficulty moving forward due to headwinds. It was then that in the distance they saw a man walking on the water and they were afraid, which is normal: any of us would also have been scared by such an event. However, the Lord spoke to them and reassured them saying: “Calm down, it’s me; fear not.” In fact, Jesus repeats these very words to us when we have to face the various challenges that try to frighten us.

Peter walks on water
We can remember Peter in two ways, depending on whether we are pessimistic or optimistic: either as someone brave who achieved the feat of walking on water, or as someone who sank due to lack of faith. However, we cannot forget that Peter’s faith allowed him to be like his teacher, while doubt caused him to falter. In fact, the Bible shows us that with the Lord we will achieve great deeds because nothing is impossible for God. Let us try to remain firm in our faith, even in the midst of trials or when nothing seems certain, knowing that Jesus is with us. Let us remember that He reaches out to us, and that we are invited to respond with boldness, joy and confidence, as Peter did!
