Passage from the Gospel of John, chapter 14

“Don’t worry. Believe in God and also believe in me.

In my Father’s House there are many rooms; if it wasn’t, he would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you.

And when I have gone and prepared a place for you, I will come again to take you with me, so that where I am, you may be also.

You already know the way to the place where I am going.”

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How are we to know the way?

Jesus replied: «I’m the way, the truth and the life. Nobody goes to the Father, but by me.

If you know me, you will also know my Father. From now on they know him and have seen him»” (John 14:1-7).

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life

This passage from the Gospel of Saint John details the forceful words that Christ gave to his disciples. To tell the truth, the apostles, represented by Thomas and Philip, were deaf and blind to the teachings of Jesus, and were obstinate in seeking an earthly destiny for him, even when he loudly announced his spiritual kingdom.

In fact, Jesus wanted to give his people a word of heavenly hope that does not compare with the weak earthly hope that the Jews had: He is the road!, and it is because it came from the Father, then returned to Him through the ascension, therefore it has all the authority to show us, through his life, the path that leads to the Father. Remember that Jesus is truth and life, because it is the Word of God, that is, the creative Word of God that vivifies… In this order of ideas, everything exists through Him: the immutable laws that govern the universe and the life that develops there. In other words, everything has its origin in Jesus, the Word made flesh.
