.- On Monday, the singer Jotta A reported through his Instagram account that he considers himself a trans woman and will change his gender and name in the civil registry, reports Portal Celebrities Brazil.
In May 2020, the former Christian singer had caused a stir by announcing his retirement from Christian music, and later revealed his homosexuality.
The singer Jotta A indicated that he has already begun to do the paperwork to change gender.
He also said that he will keep his stage name, and that he prefers to hide the legal name he chose.
In Brazil, people are allowed to change their name and gender in the registry without first undergoing a sex change operation.
The trans singer said they would keep their stage name to stay tied to their legacy and so their nephews wouldn’t have to readjust to a new name. In addition, the interpreter confessed that the children of his brothers call him “Aunt Jotta”.
“It took me a long time to choose my name, there were several drafts…some of them suggested by best friends. I confess that I have already used some infatuations as a guinea pig to test the kk phonetics… And I came to the conclusion that I should keep ‘Jotta’ (although it was never my registered name, only artistic), but in addition to being a way of being always linked to my story…”, said the singer.
Also, Jotta A talked about his new beginning: “Starting again is not easy, but I am happy to be living this whole process. Happy to have so many people who support me and believe in me in this new stage!”
