Julia downgraded again to a tropical storm, after crossing Nicaragua

.- Last Sunday, September 9, Hurricane Julia hit Nicaragua and was downgraded to a tropical storm.

The warning of severe flooding and torrential rains is in effect until Tuesday in northern Central America and southern Mexico, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported.

Julia impacted in Laguna de Perlas in Nicaragua, east of Managua, with winds of 140 kilometers per hour, although they later weakened to 110km/h (70mph) while leaving heavy rainfall in its path through Nicaragua.

Authorities did not immediately report the loss of life.

Watches and warnings were suspended for the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, but tropical storm warnings were in effect for the coast of El Salvador and the Pacific coast of Nicaragua and Honduras on Sunday.

In high-risk areas in Honduras, authorities declared a red alert and called on residents to evacuate as rains lashed the country.

In a tweet on Saturday, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele declared Sunday as the “National Day of Prayer,” calling on citizens to “join to pray and ask for God’s protection.”
