kyrie eleison is a catholic and orthodox liturgical prayer. This invocation is part of the penitential preparation for the sacrament of the Eucharist during mass. Although it is often associated with prayers in Latin, the Kyrie is derived from the Greek. In fact, Christians use this supplication (often in the form of a song), to repent of their sins, before taking communion. Like the Agnus Dei, this prayer is found in some litanies.
