Learn what it really means to be a man of God

.- This important question is likely to arise for any child growing up in the Christian faith, as a reflection of aging and maturity of character. The question is this, what does it really mean to be a man of God?

The wisdom of society suggests that every child enters a period of transition from child to adult. We think of this time as adolescence, and in the end, ideally, the adolescent who becomes an adult is an adult not only in age but in character. A girl becomes a woman. And a boy becomes a man.

However, for a boy to become a man of God, he must adopt a character that is not like the world, but rather a reflection of Jesus.

What does it mean to be a man of God?

Answering the aforementioned question requires us to recognize that there is a stark contrast between how the world views men and how the Bible views men. For example, modern America does not hold men or masculinity in high regard.

Masculinity is labeled as “toxic” and the idea of patriarchy is condemned. Contrary to these prevailing beliefs in the world, the Bible holds men in high esteem. All of Jesus’ apostles were men, the Bible was written primarily by men, and according to the Scriptures, men should be the heads of households.

The elevation of men in the Bible does not equate to superiority over women. When Eve was created from Adam, she was taken from her rib. She was not created from her foot, which would indicate superiority over woman, or her head, which indicates inferiority.

She was taken from her side. Therefore, men and women are equal, even when they play different roles in private or public life. Therefore, being a man of God is not something to condemn, but to encourage.

For any boy becoming a man, or for men trying to commit themselves more fully to God, there is an answer to the question. Unsurprisingly, the Bible provides numerous examples of how we can become men of God.

How to be a man of God

God spoke: “Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9).

Paul wrote, “Am I now trying to persuade people, or God? Or am I trying hard to please people? If he were still trying to please people, he would not be a servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10).

Timothy said, “But you, man of God, flee from these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness” (1 Timothy 6:11).

What does it really mean to be a man of God?

The complex question becomes much more understandable when we immerse ourselves in the Scriptures. Reading what God says about manhood demonstrates that we don’t need to guess or be confused by the examples the world gives.

The worldly definition of men and masculinity changes with the tide of culture, but God’s word remains the same because He remains the same. The process of being transformed into the image of Christ is not accomplished overnight.

Therefore, we are likely to ask ourselves this question several times throughout our lives. Asking ourselves the question several times is not in itself problematic. Where we must be careful is to identify where we get our answers.

We must seek answers from the right sources; What better source of wisdom than the Bible? The Scriptures are full of examples of men showing modern man how to seek God in both word and action.

The more we are like Jesus, the closer we will surely come to God, but we will also be a divine example for our wives, children, friends and community. That is to be a true man of God.
