Litanies of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The litanies of the Blessed Virgin Mary are also known as the Lauretan Litanies either Litanies of Loreto. This name comes from the Italian town in whose sanctuary these litanies were first used. In them, Mary is invoked through her various virtues and her titles of honor. Reciting them brings us closer to our heavenly mother and, through her, to her son, her son Jesus Christ; In addition to this, it reminds us to what extent Mary is an example, a hope and a refuge for all Catholics.

Litanies and Marian devotion

The litanies of Loreto date back to the 15th century and are part of the devotion to Mary. They were written by Cardinal Savelli and approved by Sixtus V in 1587.

Often these litanies are recited in the month of October, month of the Virgin. One of the many ways to touch the heart of the Holy Mother of God is by reciting the rosary followed by these litanies. Through these prayers, She takes us by the hand and leads us to her son.

There are many other prayers to the Virgin.
