Lula seeks evangelical support and says he is against abortion

.- President Lula Da Silva sent a letter to evangelical Christians where he promised that he would guarantee religious freedom and where he also clarified that he is against abortion, reports Telemundo.

Lula seeks evangelical support, which are a considerable group within the electoral roll, and which also mostly support President Jair Bolsonaro.

Without directly citing Bolsonaro, the former trade unionist denounced in the letter “the political use of faith” for “electoral purposes” and stressed that his government “will never use symbols of his faith for political-partisan purposes.”

Lula also expressed his “support and respect” for the Christian community and insisted on the importance of the family.

“Family for me is something sacred,” stressed Lula, accompanied by some evangelical co-religionists, such as the elected deputy and former minister Marina Silva.

Lula delivered a message against abortion: “Our government project is committed to full life in all its phases. For me, life is sacred, the work of the creator’s hands and my commitment has always been and will be with his protection,” said the former president.

However, this statement is inconsistent with the pro-abortion message he gave at the start of his presidential campaign.

“Poor women die trying to have an abortion, because it is prohibited, but the ‘madame’ can go to have an abortion in Paris or choose Berlin, when the truth is that it should be a matter of public health, so that everyone has right”, declared Lula then.
