Mel Gibson’s Christian film is applauded for 10 minutes

USA- He has caused controversy since the release of the blockbuster “The Passion of the Christ” in 2004, but actor-director Mel Gibson has made a strong comeback in Christian territory, due to his new film that had a very positive reception. in its first showing, during a Venice film award event.

“Hacksaw Ridge”, is a film based on World War II, tells the true story of a soldier, whose Christian beliefs led him to be a pacifist. The production had its world premiere at the 73rd Venice Film Festival in September, where Deadline Hollywood reported that the film received 10 minutes of applause from audiences. The film is being touted as a possible Oscar contender.

“Hacksaw Ridge” tells the story of Desmond Doss T (Andrew Garfield), the war hero who received a medal of honor after saving dozens of wounded soldiers during the Battle of Okinawa in World War II.

Doss was a devout Seventh-day Adventist and believed that because of the courage of his faith he could not fire a gun in battle, but he also recognized that he could not turn his back on war while other men went to serve as soldiers. Although initially a figure of contempt among his fellow soldiers, Doss quickly became a hero after several feats and demonstrated extraordinary courage.

The role of Christianity in the film is not subtle, as the official trailer (below) shows. The two-minute video includes several references to Doss’s faith, including a scene in which he fervently prays and another in which he fights over his beliefs. The film also appears to show how Doss’s faith began to have a profound effect on his fellow soldiers.

The project to produce a film based on Doss’s life was not an easy development. The attempts lasted more than a decade. Mel Gibson signed on to direct the film in 2014, eight years after his previous release, “Apolcalypto.”

The next film directed by Mel Gibson will probably be a sequel to “The Passion of the Christ”, based on the resurrection of Jesus. The film will open in the US on November 4 with a scheduled release date in other countries.
