Ministry brings the gospel to women in strip clubs

CHRISTIANNEWS.COM.- The Christian group Cherished is taking the gospel to women in strip clubs. The nonprofit ministry is offering them courage, hope, and a way out.

“Once you’re in the sex industry, you don’t get a lot of respect from other people. Whether it’s her clients, her managers, or even her own co-workers,” said Cherished’s Carlie Gabbert, Faithwire reports.

Almost 12 years ago Gabbert felt the need to help women who work in strip clubs. “One day she was driving down the interstate on an overnight trip. We passed a strip club. Where God actually told me that he was supposed to help them in some way,” Gabbert explained.

2 years later Gabbert came across a ministry called “Established Step”. Who had launched Charised, a group that focuses on making friends and evangelizing women who were working in strip clubs.

“Many of them have second jobs as an insurance representative, nursing assistant, dental assistant, or work in a restaurant. But with those jobs they don’t make ends meet,” Gabbert said.

“I was desperate. My savings had been depleted, I had no one to help me. I didn’t know anyone here,” said a woman named Alynna.

Alynna is a rape survivor who grew up attending a Christian school. She came across the ministry while she was trying to get a job at a strip club. But instead of a dance job, she received the blessing of Cherished.

Now it is working as a vaccination site. Alynna credits Cherished and her church for helping her find peace and fulfillment through God.

“There is a way out and God will do it for you, because he did it for me. Look at me I’m here. I’m alive. And we are here to help everyone else survive,” Alynna said.

Gabbert explained that in the end, it all leads to the goal of helping more women find the healing that only God can provide. “Really, it’s just the Holy Spirit. We are just willing and the Lord uses us and He is the one who really does that work there,” she concluded.
