Netflix movie “The Starling” highlights the sanctity of marriage and hope in the midst of pain

CHRISTIANNOTICE.COM.- The new Netflix movie, “The Starling”, released this Friday, highlights the sanctity of marriage and hope in the midst of the deepest pain of pain, said the director of the production Theodore Melfi.

In “The Starling”, the couple Lilly and Jack, starring Melissa McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd, face the loss of their baby, a victim of sudden infant death syndrome, reports Christian Post.

A year after her daughter’s death, Lilly struggles to survive her grief by doing whatever she can to distract herself through her work or gardening.

For his part, Jack, an elementary school teacher, checks into a mental health clinic, two hours from his home, to treat uncontrollable depression caused by grief.

As the two deal with their own pain, they also need to heal their marriage.

Statement from the film’s director

For the director of the film, the script shows the beauty and sanctity of marriage. Married for 25 years, Melfi said everyone understands the work “it takes to be happily married” and “find joy in his spouse every day.”

“It doesn’t matter if it was a trauma or something that makes a couple start to feel disconnected. But, in this particular situation, a couple is going through a trauma. They are deeply in love and don’t know how to process it, together or individually. For me, this is an interesting story and topic,” said Melfi.

Releasing a film in a time of pandemic, director Melfi reminds us that there is hope in overcoming grief and loss when we acknowledge our emotions and face them.

“The entire world is struggling with grief and loss on some level. I don’t know if there is a person alive now who hasn’t experienced the death of someone he loves or knows, or the illness of someone he loves or knows,” she noted.

The director concluded by saying that: “The world has gone through collective suffering, collective mourning. There is a light at the other end of the tunnel. If you acknowledge the pain, if you laugh and cry, it will get better. I know from experience”.
