New Evidence Proves Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah

During the annual meeting of the American Schools of Oriental Research in Denver, Colorado (USA), Archaeologist Phillip Silvia recounted, as reported by Newsweek magazine, the surprising discoveries of excavations in the area believed to be the site of Biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

The archaeological site is located in the Middle Ghor region, in the Jordan Valley, where about 65,000 people lived at that time.. On-site investigations indicate the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was by a “powerful wave of heat, wind, and minute particles.”

This great calamity that wiped out Sodom and Gomorrah occurred some 3,700 years ago, leaving the region uninhabitable for centuries. Silvia, who led a team from Trinity Southwest University, a Christian higher education institution, argues that the civilization that inhabited the eastern side of the Dead Sea was destroyed by a meteorite explosion in the atmosphere.

Archaeologists believe that the explosion would have generated large waves of super-salty water from the Dead Sea. “She had destroyed” not only 100% of the Bronze Age cities, but also razed the agricultural soil of the other fertile areas.

The explosion of the meteorite at a low altitude would have caused a catastrophe that destroyed a large part of the territoryincluding the ancient city of Alto el-Hammam, where the researchers have been working for years. Radiocarbon dating examinations revealed that the clay brick walls abruptly disappeared in the city, leaving only its stone foundations. Scientists estimate that at least five cities and more small villages have been destroyed in an area of 25 kilometers.

In addition, some of the surface pottery found in the excavations melted to the point of becoming glass, indicating its exposure to very high temperatures.. The catastrophe that devastated Sodom and Gomorrah left the region uninhabitable for about 700 years, the scientists estimate, who will continue to excavate the site in the coming months.

According to the Bible, the ancient cities were destroyed by God because of the sinful behavior of his people. The text of Genesis 19: 24 refers to the destruction as a rain of “brimstone and fire”, without giving further details of how it occurred.
