How to pray the novena to San Expedito?
Through this novena, we entrust ourselves to the Virgin Mary and to Christ, through the intercession of Saint Expeditus. The novena can be adapted to the intention for which you want to pray and integrate a specific prayer for the situation, which must be repeated for nine days.
By tradition, the novena to San Expedito is held between 11 and 19 Aprill (feast day of this saint), however, we can pray it when we feel the need.
First, it should be recited each day: “Oh saint, I come to you, imploring your prompt assistance, so that your powerful intercession obtains for me, from the infinite goodness of the Lord, the help that I humbly ask of His Divine Mercy.”
Then a prayer is said to Saint Expedite, which we can choose from among the many that exist:
– Prayer in case of conflicts and judgments
– Prayer in case of exams, competitions (school, professional, driving license…)
– Prayer against evil and adversity
In addition, it is possible to pray a novena based on the miraculous prayer to Saint Expeditus. Remember that any prayer that is said for nine days, with great fervor, can be considered a novena.
Finally, the prayer time ends with an invocation to Jesus, Mary and Saint Expeditus, which is different for each day of the novena:
Day 1: “O Jesus Christ, protect us tomorrow and always but especially today. O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who turn to you. Saint Expeditus, patron saint of youth, pray for us.”
Day 2: “Oh Jesus Christ, protect us tomorrow and always but especially today. Oh Mary, help of Christians, pray for us. Saint Expeditus, faithful until death, pray for us.”
Day 3: “Oh Jesus Christ, protect us tomorrow and always, but especially today. Oh Mary, channel of all graces, pray for us. Saint Expeditus, our help in urgent matters, pray for us.”
Day 4: “Oh Jesus Christ, protect us tomorrow and always, but especially today. Oh Mary, Queen of Saints, pray for us. Saint Expeditus, who has merited the kingdom of heaven, pray for us.”
Day 5: “Oh Jesus Christ, protect us tomorrow and always, but especially today. Oh Mary, refuge of sinners, pray for us. Saint Expeditus, who was beaten with rods, pray for us.”
Day 6: “Oh Jesus Christ, protect us tomorrow and always, but especially today. Oh, Mary, Queen of Martyrs, pray for us. Saint Expeditus, who lost everything to gain Jesus Christ, pray for us.”
Day 7: “O Jesus Christ, protect us tomorrow and always, but especially today. Saint Expeditus, invincible athlete of faith, pray for us.”
Day 8: “Oh Jesus Christ, protect us tomorrow and always, but especially today. Oh Mary, advocate of sinners, pray for us. Saint Expeditus, the most faithful support of those who hope in you, pray for us.”
Day 9: “Oh Jesus Christ, protect us tomorrow and always, but especially today. Oh Mary, mother of divine love, pray for us. Holy Expeditus, you who received from the Lord this crown of justice that He promised to those who love him, pray for us. ”
We can also pray to Saint Expedite by reciting his litanies, which allow us to invoke him under all his names.
Why pray to Saint Expeditus?
Many people from all over the world profess a great devotion to Saint Expeditus. In fact, praying to Saint Expeditus can be a means to seek a favorable outcome in different situations.
Saint Expeditus, patron saint of urgent situations
Being accustomed to not leaving anything for the next day, especially his conversion, Saint Expeditus became the intercessor par excellence in urgent matters. In fact, his motto “Hodie” (today), with which he is very often depicted, illustrates his willingness to make decisions quickly and confidently. Therefore, it can be used to ask the Lord for a quick solution to a conflictive situation, for example, before a trial. We can also pray to him to help us act with courage and discernment when faced with evil or adversity.
Saint Expeditus, patron saint of youth
Having died young, Saint Expeditus is also considered the patron saint of youth and students. Therefore, he is prayed to help students during exams, contests, to obtain a driver’s license, etc.
