Padre Pio is well known for his life framed in an intense relationship with heaven which happened from his childhood. In fact, his experience of having a relationship with angels and especially with his Guardian angel it is very enriching.
Padre Pio offers us his experience to help us spiritually, which is a very useful tool not only for each one of us, but also for the whole society, which currently needs a merciful intervention of Providence.

Padre Pio and his guardian angel
From the age of five, Padre Pio began to see his Guardian angel and spoke with him; in his simplicity and innocence, she believed that everyone was like him. Since then, an intimate relationship of friendship was established between him and his best friend. In fact, in a letter to his superior, Padre Pio recounted: “At night, when I close my eyes, I see the veil lowered and paradise open before me; and, comforted by this vision, I sleep with a smile of sweet happiness on my lips and with a great tranquility on my forehead, waiting for my little companion from my childhood to come and wake me up and, in this way, raise the morning lauds together to the beloved of our hearts” (Letter I, 308).
From that moment on, the young man never closed the door of his house when he left; instead of this he said “the little angel takes care of my house”.
One day Padre Pio had a vision: a majestic man, of rare beauty, resplendent as the sun, led him by the hand into an immense field, where he pointed out to him a figure of inordinate grandeur leading a crowd of hideous-looking men dressed in gloomy black. He told her: “It suits you to fight as a brave warrior”. Wondering how he could take on such a giant, the wonderful man assured him, “I will be close to you, I will always help you, so that you can defeat him”. Is prophetic vision he guided Padre Pio all his life and encouraged him in his violent battles against the devil.
Among the many helps and favors of the guardian angel to Padre Pio, we have one that is extraordinary: he received thousands of letters from all over the world and in all languages, when they asked him how he managed to understand them, Padre Pio replied: “My angel helps me and translates everything for me.”

Padre Pio encouraged all the souls he met to enter into this relationship of deep friendship with their guardian angel. He explained that our Guardian angel it is there just for us: “Invoke your Guardian Angel, who will enlighten and guide you. The Lord placed him close to you precisely because of this. Therefore, “make use of it.” Use your guardian angel, it would be a serious omission not to use it and a great injustice to forget it “.
In a letter to his spiritual daughter, Annita, Padre Pio gives us a lot of advice about the relationship with the guardian angel:
“You have great devotion, Annita, to this good angel.
How comforting it is to know that near us there is a spirit that, from the cradle to the grave, does not leave us for a moment, not even when we dare to sin.
And this heavenly spirit guides and protects us like a friend, a brother.
But it is very comforting to know that this angel prays without ceasing for us.
Offer to God all our good deeds, our thoughts, our desires, if they are pure.
For the love of God, do not forget this invisible companion, always present, always willing to listen to us and ready to comfort us.
Oh delicious intimacy! Oh delicious company! If only we could understand it!
Keep it ever present in your mind’s eye. Often remember the presence of this angel, thank him, pray to him, always keep good company.
Open yourself to him and entrust your suffering to him. Be in constant fear of offending the purity of his gaze. Know this and keep it well imprinted in your mind.
He is very delicate, very sensitive.
Turn to him in moments of supreme distress and you will experience his beneficent help.
Never say that you are alone in the battle against your enemies.
Never say that you don’t have anyone you can open up to and trust. You would do this heavenly messenger a grave mistake.”
In fact, Padre Pio prayed this prayer every day, dedicated to his guardian angel. He invites us to do the same today!
