Pastor dies of COVID-19 after underestimating pandemic

CHRISTIANNEWS.COM. – An evangelical pastor from the state of Virginia, in the United States, died of coronavirus, reported the newspaper El Tiempo.

The pastor of the New Liberation Evangelical Church, Bishop Gerald Glenn, died last Sunday, April 12, after contracting covid-19, a disease caused by the new coronavirus.

open church

Local media assure that the religious decided to keep his church open, despite the recommendations of the authorities who ordered respect for social distancing to contain the spread.

In the last service, recorded on March 22 of this year, Pastor Glenn downplayed the impact of the deadly disease.

Ignoring the recommendations of the authorities, the pastor promised his parishioners to keep the church open. He said that the services he provided were essential.

I would continue preaching

In addition, he stated that he would continue preaching “until he ends up in jail or in the hospital,” according to the same outlet.

The religious became the center of controversy due to his defiant attitude regarding the forty and the closure of mass activities.

One day after his last preaching, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam made the decision to ban all gatherings of more than 10 people.

curb fear

According to Pastor Glenn’s daughter, Mar-Gerie Crawley, the priest decided to hold the March 22 ceremony to support parishioners who were afraid of the virus. Crawley maintained that her father’s intention was not to defy state orders.

Some believers point out that the spiritual leader said at the time that the people in his church were “cured”, days after the preaching, he and his wife began to get sick.

tested positive

One afternoon, his relatives took him to a medical center, where they did a test to see if the symptoms he had were caused by the new coronavirus.

Twenty-four hours later, doctors informed Glenn’s family that he was a positive case. After going to the emergency room several times, the religious’s condition worsened. Although the doctors treated him and his condition improved with the help of a ventilator, they were unable to save his life.

“It’s something that becomes very real to you,” Mar-Gerie Crawley told ‘Wtvr’.

“The only thing I ask of people is that they understand the seriousness of the situation. It is not just about us, but it affects everyone around us, “concluded the daughter of the dead pastor, who is now one of the more than 20,000 victims of the new coronavirus in the US.
