CHRISTIANNEWS.COM.- A pastor of the Lutheran Church in Chicago, USA, caused a stir on social networks after dressing up as a drag queen to preach to children.
According to the Daily Mail portal, Pastor Aaron Musser was preaching about the book Job to a group of children the day the images were recorded.
“I have an incredible story to share with you today. […] I’m also a boy most of the time when I’m here, but today I’m a girl,” Musser says in part of her account.
On the pastor’s official Facebook account, he shared a post explaining the goals of his preaching:
“The sixth Sunday of Advent is Joy Sunday. It is an opportunity for us to rehearse what a life of joy can be like. It’s a dress rehearsal. Preaching in disguise is a theological reflection on joy: joy overflows so abundantly that it cannot fail to make itself known. Bringing together the theme of the day, queer theory, and the lectionary texts, “we will rehearse with joy.”
The religious leader also said, via the church’s Facebook page, that he would like to set a practical example on happiness.
“Instead, I would wear a dress like so many who have inspired me have. I decided to follow his example, proving that freedom from oppressive laws opens the way to joy.
Due to the controversy in the publication, the church decided to limit the comments. For now, we have frozen comments on this post. We appreciate all the love and encourage you to continue to pray for full inclusion, affirmation, and justice for LGBTQIA+ people in the church.”
