Prayer to Saint Agnes, the sweetest and most tender saint of all moments; you can ask for her intercession in any problem. Santa Inés was martyred, the night the very afflicted parents, the eighth day after her martyrdom, visited her grave, during the night, to cry and pray.
While they were thinking of cruel death, which, although it had enriched their daughter with a martyr’s palm, had deprived them of their society, Saint Agnes suddenly appeared to them: she was surrounded by a brilliant light, wearing a crown on her head and she was surrounded by a chorus of dazzlingly beautiful virgins. To the right of her was a beautiful white lamb.
Turning to his parents, he told them: “Don’t cry over my death; for now I am in heaven, together with these virgins, living with Him, whom I loved on earth with all my soul.”
It is to commemorate this glorious apparition that the Holy Church has instituted this feast, which is called the Second Feast of Saint Agnes. Let us pray to this fervent husband of the Divine Lambso that he may intercede for us with Him, and present us to Him in this life, until it is given to us to possess Him face to face in heaven.

How sweet and yet how strong and innocent your heart, that heart that fills you with intrepid courage! That’s how it was with you. The world and its pleasures, the persecution and its tortures, were all equally contemptible to you. You who were vilely condemned and insulted by that pagan judge, received that punishment that is worse than a thousand deaths, and you did not know that the Angel of the Lord would defend you; how is it possible that you were not afraid?
Because your little heart was filled with the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. All the punishment and martyrdom you suffered was nothing; the very hell of the creation of men, even that was nothing to you! because the love you felt for God was greater than anything, and no human power could ever steal your Jesus from you; you had his word for it, and you knew he would keep it.
Dear daughter! innocent even in the capital of heathen corruption, and free-hearted even in the midst of a servile race, we read the image of our Emmanuel in you. A family that has martyrs, and heroes, and heroines, like you, brave saint, that has young virgins, filled like their venerable Pontiffs and veteran soldiers, with fire from heaven, and burning with ambition to leave a world they have built with its virtues, it is God’s own people, and it can never be extinct.
By nature, they were as weak as we are; they had a handicap, which we have not had; they had to live in the thick of paganism, and paganism had corrupted the whole earth; and despite all this, they were brave and chaste.
Have mercy on us and help us, oh you, one of the brightest of these great saints! The love of Jesus is weak in our hearts. We are affected, and we shed tears at the recital of your heroic conduct; but we are cowards in the battle that we ourselves have to fight against the world and our passions.
Take us to his sweet Virgin Mother. You imitated her virginal purity; ask him to give us one of those powerful prayers, that can clean hearts even worse than ours. Pray also, O Saint Agnes, for the Holy Church, which is the Wife of Jesus. It was she who gave you to be hers, hers, and it is from her that we too have received our life and our light. Pray that she will be blessed with an increasing number of faithful virgins.
Protect Rome, the city that guards your relics, and loves you so dearly.
