San Dimas He is the patron saint of thieves. He is not their patron saint in the same way that Saint Anthony is the patron saint of lost and found. You pray to Saint Dimas to help you find something you have lost, like when your car keys are lost. You don’t pray to San Dimas to help you pull off a robbery. You pray to him when your conscience bothers you and you want to move on.
That is why all of us can pray to him, not just those of us who have problems with private property. All of us have to give up our lives of crime and move on. But criminals are wrong about many other things, I imagine those who have heard of San Dimas they probably make mistakes too and end up praying for help and guidance.

Prayer to San Dimas, to recover what was stolen
Saint Dismas, you were closer to Jesus in his agony on the cross than even his beloved mother Mary. Because of your sincerity and open confession of your sins to Jesus, as you hung next to him on Calvary and because of your true sorrow and repentance for them.
You alone, of all the great penitents the saints were directly canonized by Christ himself; and you were assured a place in Heaven with Him on that very day! Good Saint Dimas, now in paradise with the Lord, I ask you to intercede for me this day, while I express my sincere sorrow and repentance for my sins.
I ask the Lord to forgive and grant me the grace and perseverance so that I never abandon him again and at the end of my life I hear from him. Amen

He in that open confessional the direct thrust of the sword of your love and repentance opened the Heart of Jesus in mercy and forgiveness even before the centurion’s spear split it in two; you, who was closest to Jesus in his dying last breath, to offer him a word of consolation, closer even than that of his beloved mother,
Mary, you who knew how to pray so well, teach me the words to tell Him to obtain forgiveness and the grace of perseverance; and you who are so close to him now in heaven, as you were in his last moments on earth, pray to him for me that I will never abandon him again, but in the near of my life I can hear from him the words that He addressed you: «This day you will be with me in paradise». Lord, have mercy on all the prisoners around the world who are imprisoned for their crimes against humanity, especially those who are going to be executed for their crimes. We beg you to grant them the grace of repentance.

Lord Jesus, help us to be merciful as You are. Let’s see that they are all Your children and remember that we should not judge. When we look at one like Dimas, we see an opportunity to offer hope and salvation. Let us be witnesses of the good news of salvation for the sinner and never judge anyone as unworthy or hopeless. Just as Dimas repented in the last moments of his life on earth, let us see that this is a great hope for all and grant that we never tire in our efforts to bring the light of salvation to all. Amen.

Powerful prayer to San Dimas
O good Saint Dismas, who art in heaven enjoying the beatific vision of God because of a contrite and humble heart and a kind and forgiving crucified Savior whose parched lips uttered the reassuring words of salvation on the cross of Calvary. “Truly I tell you that today you will be with me in paradise”, plead my case before the tribunal of Heaven and present my spiritual and temporal requests to Our Blessed Lord, with the help of Our Sorrowful Mother and the good Saint Joseph.
(Here declare your request)
In exchange for these favors. Oh good St. Dimas, I promise to amend my own life, do penance and help spread your blessed devotion far and near, so that at the end of life’s journey I can personally thank you in Heaven. Amen.
