The Archangel Gabriel appears in the Bible when God sends him on a mission to deliver a message of great importance. He was the most famous of those present at the Annunciation when he announced to the Virgin Mary that she would carry the Savior of the world. He also appeared to Zacharias to proclaim that his wife would give birth to John the Baptist.
It was Gabriel who stayed with Christ on the eve of his crucifixion, giving him the strength to face his destiny. The name Gabriel means “Strength of God” and that is why it is invoked to have value. Gabriel was also mentioned in the Old Testament, when he is described as assisting the prophet Daniel in his heavenly visions.
