Saint Vincent Ferrer, Aragonese friar and renowned preacher who helped put an end to the Great Western Schism. In 1367 he entered the Dominican order in Valencia, where he was appointed professor of theology. In 1394, Antipope Benedict XIII appointed him confessor and theologian at his Avignon court, but five years later Vincent resigned from the missions.
Traveling through Burgundy, southern France, Switzerland, northern Italy, and Spain, he drew crowds from around the world and was remarkably successful in winning Jewish converts. He was known for his poverty and religious austerity, including perpetual fasting, and he was believed to have the gift of miracles.
In an effort to end the schism, he had twice tried to persuade Benedict to renounce his papal claim. In 1412 he was one of the nine judges who chose Ferdinand I King of Aragon, and he persuaded Ferdinand to stop supporting Benedict, thus helping to end the schism.
He lived to see the election of Pope Martin V in November 1417, officially ending the Great Western Schism. The last two years of his life were spent preaching in the north of France.
Prayer to San Vicente Ferrer, for urgent needs
My glorious father Saint Vincent, my most loving benefactor, convinced of the glory and power that you enjoy before God, and that you exercise on behalf of all your true devotees, and also encouraged with great confidence in your powerful patronage:
I kneel before your holy image, like a son before his loving father, like a poor vassal before his generous king, like an afflicted patient before his compassionate doctor. Look at me here kneeling at your blessed feet, full of pain and sadness, sickness and misery, full of all kinds of needs of both soul and body. I turn to you with all my faith and trust so that you deign to heal me, taking away my anxieties and granting me the favors I ask of you.
Help me, then, my Holy, powerful and gracious; heal me from the diseases that afflict me; obtain from God the grace to convert wholeheartedly to Him and to serve Him until death; comfort me and encourage me in all my works with your holy assistance; deliver me from all the dangers that surround me everywhere, and always keep me in the health of soul and body that I need so that, in this way, I can fulfill the divine commandments and the obligations of my own state, and can also continue honoring you with fervent devotion and with all my tenderest gratitude for your kindness and goodness, being like a true father to me.
Listen to me, my Saint, accepting my cries and granting me the favors that I ask of you and that I hope for, also grant me the great happiness of imitating you in your precious virtues, especially in love for Jesus Christ, our Divine Redeemer, in charity towards others, in the mortification of my senses, in the tender and constant devotion to our much loved Mother, the Most Holy Virgin of the Rosary, and, finally, in the continuous meditation of my death and the tremendous day of judgment. So be it. Amen
Prayer to San Vicente Ferrer, to ask for health
Oh my protector, Saint Vincent Ferrer, as the eternal God has deposited in you an inexhaustible treasurer of grace and supernatural virtues, listen to my sincere request and help me with your intercession, more powerful now than when you were on earth.
Therefore, with blind trust I place myself at your feet, to ask for all those who concern me, but more particularly for (the special favor). Oh glorious saint, let my trust in you not be deceived. He presents to me, to the Divine Majesty, your pleading prayers and watches over my soul. If sadness and trials increase, so will my joy increase, and may my patience grow with each day, so that I can save my soul. Amen.

Amen.
